www.focus2.comPoster Copy: Garamond In The Wild Claude Garamond meets The Bird. Classic Font Feast 04 Sometimes legendary events are eclipsed by louder-told tales and in the case of the Thanksgiving holiday, there is no exception. Back in 1540, the Timucua Indians sat down with a Spanish explorer Pedro Menéndez de Avilés and ate bean soup. This meal of thanksgiving was to be the first, proceeding the Pilgrim's sit-down by over fifty years. In the same way, type artist Claude Garamond's classic letterform Garamond was confused with a very similar face by fellow Frenchman Jean Jannon (which was released the same year the Pilgrims celebrated the "first" Thanksgiving). To make matters worse, Jannon's lettering was confiscated by the French Royal Printing Office and mislabeled as Garamond, an error which survives in many cuts of Garamond to this day (along with the fake Thanksgiving). These two classics have been brought together by focus2 brand development to celebrate the season and the classics which continually inspire and motivate us. ![]()
